Chloe Fineman has recently shared her disappointment regarding how she was treated by Elon Musk during his hosting stint on Saturday Night Live in 2021. In a TikTok video that has now been removed, Fineman mentioned that Musk’s reaction to a sketch she created for him caused her to cry.
She explained that she had dedicated an entire night preparing the sketch, but when she presented it to Musk, he responded in a very unkind manner. Fineman recalled asking if he had any questions, to which he looked at her as if he was firing her from Tesla, saying, “It’s not funny.” When Musk did not provide any praise and instead criticized her work, flipping through the pages and stating, “I didn’t laugh once. Not one time,” Fineman felt deeply hurt.
Elon Musk later commented on the social media platform X. While he did not confirm or deny that he made her cry, he defended his actions, stating that it was only the Thursday before the live show that any sketches started to get laughs. He mentioned he was worried the episode might not be good, but ultimately, the sketches ended up being successful. Musk also referred to his previous remarks on the All-In Podcast, where he had said that “nothing was funny” at first.
The sketch Fineman worked on eventually aired, and she admitted she found Musk funny in it. However, she criticized his lack of courtesy during their interaction. Her comments come after fellow SNL cast member Bowen Yang hinted that an unnamed host had caused multiple people to cry before a table read. Fineman suggested that Musk was the host Yang was talking about, noting, “He’s the host that made someone cry.”
Fineman’s TikTok was in response to Musk’s recent negative comments about SNL, including his critique of Dana Carvey’s impression of him during a recent skit. Musk claimed that the show had been “dying slowly for years” and that Carvey’s impression focused more on Carvey himself than on Musk. He also implied that SNL was upset about the results of the 2016 election.
Initially, Fineman chose to remain silent about the identity of the host responsible for the tears until Musk made what she described as “rude” posts on social media. Musk, who hosted SNL in May 2021, has since continued to express his dissatisfaction with the show, referring to it as “so woke.”
